Recent studies on parent-child play and music-based parenting programs for families of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers!
Note: These studies are not currently enrolling.
1. Sing and Play Study for Infants and their Caregivers. Help us learn about how infants and their caregivers sing and play together! Infants (5-6 months) and their caregiver are invited to participate in play sessions at Vanderbilt involving toys, stories, and/or songs. Caregivers complete study survey. 2. Music and Games Study for Preschoolers and their Caregivers. Help us learn about how preschoolers and their caregivers play together! Preschoolers (3-5 years old) and their caregiver are invited to participate in play sessions at Vanderbilt involving toys, stories, art and/or songs. Caregivers complete study survey. 3. Music Class Opportunities for Infants and Caregivers. We invite parents/caregivers and their infant (~8-10 months old) to participate in a music class/parent education opportunity. Participants will be asked to complete surveys about themselves and their child, participate in ~8 weekly music activity sessions, and complete study tasks at home or at Vanderbilt. Participants must have primarily English language exposure and receive compensation of up to $100 in gift cards.
4. Parent/Child Music Class Opportunities for Preschoolers and their Caregivers. We invite parents/caregivers and their child (2-4 years old) to participate in a music class/parent training opportunity. Participants will be asked to complete surveys about themselves and their child, participate in ~8 weekly music activity sessions, and complete study tasks at home or at Vanderbilt. Participants must have primarily English language exposure and receive compensation of up to $100 in gift cards.
Prior studies conducted in this Research Lab include:
- Music-based social engagement telehealth and in-person intervention (ME-RIT) for young children with ASD and their parent/caregiver, a telehealth and in-person intervention study to support children's imitation and social skill development Note: not currently enrolling
- National questionnaire study of music engagement, social development, and emotional well-being in children and their families including those with developmental disabilities, medical, and mental health conditions Note: not currently enrolling
- Virtual Mindfulness-Based Music and Songwriting Program, a 6-week online mindfulness-based music and songwriting program (MBMS) to target stress and promote well-being for parents of children with intellectual/developmental disabilities or severe chronic illness. Note: not currently enrolling
- Waitlist-control pilot study of the SeRenade (Social and Rhythmic Engagement) Program, a community-based music program that integrates parent training and peer inclusion within a musical play context to impact social and emotional well-being in families of children with and without ASD.
